Valencia to Formentera – First Leg of the 2025 Season
16 May 2025
We’ve finally kicked off the 2025 season, and what a joy it is to be back out on the water. After overwintering in Marbella , the boat felt ready for movement again—and so did we. We brought her up the coast to Valencia in the last 2 weeks and got everything shipshape, and then waited for the right weather window to cross to the Balearics.
We left Valencia a few days ago with the goal of reaching Formentera, taking a stop at Ibiza to break things up. Last night (15 May), we came into Sant Antoni de Portmany on the west coast of Ibiza. The sail over was smooth, with consistent wind in our favour. The port itself was busy but well-organised—mooring was comfortable, and it made for a good night’s rest.
This morning, we slipped lines and headed south toward Formentera. It’s our first proper island-hop of the season, and spirits are high. So far, the winds have been very cooperative—light but steady, mostly off the beam, with the occasional gust to keep us honest. After a long winter, it’s a welcome shift.
The weather’s finally turned for the better here. The Med had a sluggish start this year—grey skies, unsettled patterns—but today’s sunshine feels like the season is finally opening up. Meanwhile, I hear back home in Dungarvan it’s been nothing but blue skies—typical!
We are now anchored off Formentera in sparkling clear water and had a swim before sundown. Will keep you all posted on the next leg—possibly Mallorca, Menorca next depending on weather and whim.
