Blessing of the Boats

Blessing of the Boats

The Blessing of the Boats is set to take place at 3pm Sunday 19th May.

The Clubhouse will be open afterwards for a BBQ – the pressure’s on the burger chefs now to top last year’s excellent spread!

There are no charges on the pontoon for Sunday night.

Racing / Women on the Water

The Race Committee is organising a short race directly after the Blessing of the Boats and we are hoping to combine this with our first Women on the Water yacht event.

We had around 70 sign ups for Women on the Water, so we are hoping to enlist the support of as many boat owners as possible!

There will be a Class 3 on the day, this class is for boats who are not racers, they will head off before the starting gun, have a short sail around and back for the BBQ. Classes 1&2 will race a short course and be back in plenty of time for burgers too.

I will be asking the women who are interested in sailing to meet us on the pontoon after the blessing, and hopefully we will have enough boats and crew to accommodate everyone.

The race programme and charts are to be found on the Race Page of our website.

Sailing News

Our  Women on the Water dinghy event is this weekend and we have two fully-booked dinghy sailing courses running Saturday and Sunday.

A new Irish Sailing Association certified adult sailing course is beginning the following weekend and is also fully booked. It’s brilliant to see so much local interest in sailing, and we are very proud that our Club has the capacity to support it.

We have the second year of our Cara na Mara course for children aged 6yrs – 9yrs organised, and are running two courses at the end of June – younger children will earn their “Otters” qualification, while our crew from last year are returning to earn their “Seals” certificate. The course teaches basic sailing skills, science, art and nature, along with giving the children confidence to be safe around water. Find out more here.

Our Junior Sailing Courses are now open for booking, and we hope to get as many young sailors out on water again – hopefully with kinder weather than last summer! We are planning a number of social sails throughout the summer and hope that many of you will come out – the more the merrier!
